STYLE: CREATE YOUR OWN

I’ve been blessed to have a husband (Par LaChance) and partner who excels in his field, his touch has influenced what choices I make today. I’ve literally seen my “style”, an expression of who I am, come to life under his tutelage. His attention to detail has taught me to embrace myself as a whole, encouraging my self-expression through fashion, even with something as abstract as designing custom one-of-a-kind nail art just because it makes me smile…..

My initial aversion and truthful misunderstanding were, in my opinion, because of the constant outside influence that made me feel that I simply didn’t know any better. I can say now, that it’s true, I didn’t know any better, not for lack of creativity or want…. but for lack of understanding. Rationally, if it looked good on the model, why wouldn’t it look good on me? Didn’t the clothing companies make clothes that fit everyone?

Not quite…but we’ll talk about that later…..

I can’t lay the blame solely on the brands, I needed to accept that I had a different body and start learning how to uplift myself by highlighting what made ME happy. All of that through the so-called “exterior aesthetic”, how did I want to present myself? The first step, understand that it was a desire and not a necessity. Second step:

Enter: Par LaChance

He set about patiently guiding me through sorting through cuts and patterns, colors and combinations, makeup palettes to compliment my tone, and playfully styling my hair to suit my mood. I remember I used to say that if something wouldn’t fit me it probably wasn’t the right “cut”. We look back and laugh together, both proud to see the transformation, and finally…I can assure you that now I always find the right cut!

With constant support and encouragement, and many much-needed hands-on sessions I can say I feel my best at any moment of the day! He showed me how to embrace my body in any size and during every moment of the day. The evolution was about empowering my identity, combining my state of mind with self-expression, and letting go of that societal expectations.
