Part 1 〰️ Don't Miss It! 〰️

In continuation, let’s take a look at the rest of the tips:

6. A little DIY goes a long way

You don’t need to be a professional to take on certain jobs and tasks in your sanctuary, especially with today’s technology and guides we can all take on a little project ourselves! You will end up not only saving money but learning something new and taking pride that you yourself have added to your Sanctuary. A fresh coat of paint in any room can completely transform it and make you feel like you’re in another place completely. It takes effort and physical dedication, so remember to take on projects that you’re comfortable with! By the way, it’s not just about “home improvement” it’s about DIY projects for decorating also! We recently took it upon ourselves to build a canvas stretch frame for a unique portrait. It took time, research, and dedication but the end result filled us with such pride that we had done something novel and succeeded!

7. Add comforting touches

What’s your definition of comfort? Is it a fluffy throw blanket that’s strewn on the couch for those chiller nights? Perhaps instead of hard floors, you can put an area rug…you see? There are so many ways to define comfort and the bottom line is that it’s up to you! One of our first little sanctuaries started with an air mattress and very cold tiled floors. Over time, we added touches of warmth to make sure our bodies and mind felt comfortable, even adding ONE more pillow to a couch or bed can make a difference!

8. Pick the right lighting

Lighting is mood! We know what it feels like to be in a cold office with bright fluorescent bulbs illuminating everything within sight (but somehow it’s never in a good way!) and how for sure it’s probably not something that ANYONE would want in their house. So it’s important to pick the right lighting, from warm to cool (yes there are various shades of “warmth” that lightbulbs are categorized in) and optimize where exactly it is. Lighting helps us see and helps illuminate our Sanctuary in the best way possible, emphasizing those beautiful places and FUNCTIONALITY.

9. FUNCTIONALITY

Well, since we briefly highlighted this topic in the last tip, it’s time to stress it here and expand on what it truly means to have a “functional” sanctuary. Something that is functional, as defined by the Oxford dictionary, is designed to be practical and useful, rather than attractive. Some designs, by default, are SUBJECTIVE to the designer, therefore making it likely that when you bring it into your space it might lose its functionality. So why waste that space in your home to begin with? Instead, try to seek out that which is personally functional for and to you!

10. MAKE IT YOURS

We started out this guide by saying that it was in no particular order, but this particular tip is one that should be at the forefront of everyone’s mind! We can seek out inspiration, seek out iterations of ways to improve our sanctuaries, but you’ll notice that in this guide we didn’t give you exact “specifics” (like a “How To”) in order for you to realize that creating your sanctuary is in your own hands!
